Cleaning up bad data fields:

Have you ever gone into your Pardot instance, only to discover hundreds of sync errors to Salesforce that are preventing your Sales Qualified Leads from actually making their way to sales? If so, you are certainly not alone! Bad data fields are everywhere. There are, of course, many reasons prospects get “stuck” in the Salesforce sync queue, but perhaps one of the most common is that the value in a prospect field is not one of the values that Salesforce recognizes for that field. What do you do? Set up a few automation rules.

Let’s say you have an “age” field, and everyone’s numeric age is in the field, but you suddenly find out you are only supposed to categorize people into age groups, not put their exact age. The groupings are “Child” (ages 0-17), “Adult” (ages 18-29), and “Senior” (ages 30+). For this, we will need 3 automation rules.

Step 1

First, go to Marketing-Automation-Automation Rules and select “+Add Automation Rules”.

Pardot Automation Rules

Click the blue “Add Automation Rules” button

For the rule criteria, you are going to select the “prospect custom field”, and then the “Age” field, the “is in between” criteria, and then the numbers 0-17.

Next, we need to tell Pardot what we want to do with all of the prospects who are between 0 and 17 years, so we set up the action.

You will select the “change prospect custom field value”, then click the “Age” field, and in the next box, you can enter “child”.

Now, you are ready to run your rules. Be sure to click “resume” on your automation rule after you create it.

All that is left to do is create the other two automation rules. Simply switch out the age ranges and the “new” field value. You got this! (But send us an email if you don’t)
