You have created this awesome web page, but you’re not getting many viewers.  You have tried rewriting content, changing the length, and even redesigning your page, but nothing has worked.  What can you do to get higher rankings?

Here are a few SEO techniques:

  1. Choose a focus keyword, and use it frequently.

Having a focus keyword repeated throughout the webpage increases its chance of ranking higher in search results.  Think about it.  If page A had “chocolate chip cookies” written once in its title and page B had it eight times throughout the page, page B will rank higher in search engines and, therefore, get more views.  You can use the Google Adwords Keyword Planner to see how often keywords are searched and which keywords are the best for your business.

  1. Put your keyword into you page title, header, name and alt-text of images, URL, and blog category.

This is an extension of tip #1.  The SEO keyword should appear in all parts of the webpage, not just the body.

  1. Know your competition.

Research your competition.  Search your keyword, and look at the top sites that appear.  Look at their strengths and weaknesses.  What can you do better?

  1. Include internal links.

Link to other relevant parts of your website.  You can link to other pages, blog posts, etc.  You can also do the opposite—edit older content and add links to new content.

  1. Link out.

Include external links to support your content.  Readers are more likely to trust you if your content is supported by other credible websites.  However, be careful not to overdo this as you want the reader to stay on your website.

  1. Include images, charts, graphs, and infographics.

Visuals are a great way to make pages more readable.  They break up your content in a way that keeps readers engaged.

Keep these tips in mind when writing content for your next article or blog post!
